La Push

Our Sunday adventure included driving into La Push, well known to Twilight lovers as the home of the Quileute tribe that Jacob is a part of. I found this to be one of my favorite locations to visit, mostly because the history of the tribe is intertwined into the fiction of the Twilight novels. Though they do not have anything in their tribal stories regarding vampires, the stories regarding men descended from wolves is truly part of their culture.

For the Twilight lovers, here were the sights that could be found ....

The Treaty Line ... where the Cullens could not cross into Quileute territory according to the "treaty" they had formed in order to co-exist.

Jacob's house ... this is the actual house used in the movie New Moon for Billy and Jacob Black. It is now a vacation rental!

While we were in La Push, we also ventured onto the beach (not hard to find as the actual Quileute territory is only about 1 square mile!). This is the area also known as "First Beach". It was absolutely amazing! I could not imagine 100% what it looked like there from the descriptions in the book. Though Stephenie Meyer describes it right on, not having been there, it was really hard to imagine how beautiful it really is. The cliffs are incredible, and the driftwood is indescribable! The pictures do not do it justice, really!

One of my favorite pieces of driftwood. This is the root end of what looked to be an entire tree that had petrified right into the beach.

The front side of the roots ... in the book Twilight, when Bella and Jacob walk on the beach, Stephenie describes a tree such as this one that looks to be an entire tree uprooted and fell into a perfect bench. Extending out in front of where I am sitting was the long trunk of the tree.

The amazingly beautiful rainbow of rocks on the beach. They have been so perfectly rounded and smoothed by the actions of the waves in the ocean. We really wish we could have taken one for a souvenir, however, the tribal council of the Quileutes protects their land from such. I don't blame them!

Tickling my toes in the ocean. I had to do this because I really wanted to know just how cold the water was. All I can say is that it was COLD!! In the books, when Bella (as well as some of the pack) dives from the cliffs into the water, I cannot imagine submerging my entire body in this frigid water. Really puts it into perspective after feeling it! By the way, they do mention in the area that cliff diving is forbidden (they call it merely a storytelling device used in New Moon) as it is much too dangerous due to the fact that "beneath the sea stacks, the water is turbulent. There is no way of knowing if the water you're diving into has a submerged sea stack or not."
